Carers Week: 7 – 13 June 2021

26 Apr 2021

Carers Week is a campaign that happens every year to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities all over the UK.

Carers Week also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to realise that they are carers and to access the support they need to stay well while doing this work.

Thousands of people and organisations will be running activities during Carers Week 2021 to draw attention to just how important caring is.

We’re all continuing to face new challenges because of the coronavirus. Many people have taken on extra caring responsibilities for their relatives and friends who need support because they are disabled, ill or elderly.

CarerLinks in Herefordshire plans to run a number of workshops for carers during Carers Week this year. These will explore how CarerLinks and other local organisations can improve carers’ wellbeing and quality of life so they can sustain their caring role for as long as it is right for them.

The areas CarerLinks will focus on include
• health: managing physical and mental health; having a healthy lifestyle
• the caring role: skills; legal issues; planning ahead; communicating with professionals
• managing your home or that of the person you care for if you don’t live with them
• time for yourself: social life; activities; breaks from hands-on caring
• how you feel: dealing with anxiety or stress; feeling supported; resolving difficulties in key relationships
• work and employment
• finances: benefits; debts; managing money; legal issues
